Many times we want to engage our children and get them excited for learning. We try to think of ideas of teaching different topics, look on Pinterest, ask other parents, and save ideas we see on social media. Essentially we are creating an experience for our children. ⠀

We want them to grow a love of learning, be educated, have a positive experience for learning and enjoy what they are learning. What are some ways we can foster the experience of learning? ⠀

🍃Find things that interest them and include it in what they are learning. Do your children like to build? Have them build a model of a home of a historical figure they’re learning about or a state float to represent a state they are learning. What if they prefer to draw? Could they draw what they just learned about? This would be a great form of assessment!⠀

🍃Involve them in learning! Students should be involved in what they are learning. They should not be bystanders. What I mean by this is doing mundane things like JUST reading from a textbook or JUST doing worksheets. Of course, these practices are sufficient and could be very effective, but they should not be the only way to teach. Students become involved in learning when they take part in the learning. They use their hands to create something or play a game about what they learned or research what they need to learn. ⠀

🍃Fill your students’ surroundings with what they are learning about. Is your child learning about the American Revolution? Or perhaps they are learning about money. Gather books, resources, pictures, or even toys that represent what your child is learning about. This is a great way to create an experience. ⠀

🍃Make connections to what they are learning. When something comes up that relates to what they are learning, be sure to point it out. Children LOVE making connections to what they are learning because they will feel it’s relevant in the world. ⠀
